The One From The Stars by Keshav Aneel | Book Review

Summary:

“The cost of not following your heart is spending the rest of your life wishing you had.”

Vishesh is a dreamer, who is driven by his passion for writing and words. But like most Indian middle class families, his parents are impatient to see him settled in a government job. Despite all obstacles, making no complaints, he continues to follow the hard path, holding up the promise he had made to himself, trying to fulfil his father's wishes and failing over and over.

Almost everyone – his parents, friends and the love of his life – leaves his side in the middle of his journey. To worsen things, he is diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, the seriousness of which nobody could decipher before it was too late.

Will a dreamer be sacrificed for social standing? Will a heart be crushed to uphold a hollow image?

Left alone and misunderstood by everyone he knew, this is Vishesh's intense story of repeatedly falling down and trying to get up on his own, to prove that everyone who dares to follow their heart is not a commoner; he is 'The One From the Stars'.

The story gripped me from the first page and did not let go until the very last, with thrills that kept me hooked. The author's writing has a tactile visceral quality that causes you to see what he is seeing and feeling. I would Google terms and phrases and learn so much about them finding out, pleasantly, that the events described actually happened!

It starts out great and - just when you think it can't get any better, it does. It's a good read all the way to the end. It doesn't end like the predictablility would suggest.  It is fast-paced and thoughtful at the same time.

At first I didn't think the story line would be interesting enough but changed my opinion as I progressed.  The plot twists are worth the time reading it. Some I predicted and some that blew me away. The characters are authentic and engaging, and he masterfully weaves everything and everyone together into a fun and gripping story. The story line is completely believable and you love some of the characters and hate others.

I found myself wanting to quickly turn the pages so I could see how it all turned. There are enough elements in the plot to just keep you wanting to know what in the world is going to happen next. I really enjoyed this book even though there was one or two spots that were slow moving, but not for long.

I received a review copy of the book from Writersmelon in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Window Seat by Yashluv Virwani | Book Review

Summary:

What does a Window Seat remind you of? Your apartment in a high-rise building, in the lap of your couch, a cup of chai in your hand, a song on your lips, as you watch the world outside, with its share of glittering streetlights, honks and smoke, flow? Or the incessant journeys you undertake, in buses or trains, with music digging deep in your ears, as you see miles and miles of untamed wilderness ? I want you to go back to your childhood, in the cosy arms of the eldest member in your family, who, using the threads of magic, weaved a parallel existence around you, transporting you to a place away from all the things that bind you - because that is the land where stories work - a land that has no cages, only freedom.
